Summary: One day Shirogane Takeru wakes up late, wondering why Sumika or Meiya didn’t wake him up that morning. Not seeing any signs of them he gets a bit worried, and goes out of his house only to see the town he lived all his life in ruins, and that, to his joy, there are real life giant robots. After getting past the initial shock he convinces himself that it must be a dream and decides to enjoy it as much as he can. Takeru, still skeptical about his situation, decides to join the military in order to pilot a mech. Soon he finds out the terrible truth behind the reason the world is in ruins, and meets people that look exactly like his friends from his original world.
Characters: The characters are the same… but they’re not. Compared to Extra, this game is a LOT darker. The tone is very serious, but at the same time, the funny aspects of the characters from Extra (Ayamine’s sarcasm / trolling, Miki’s ridiculous cuteness and Meiya’s hardcore attitude) remain. Still, with their goofiness, they are all strong. Miki is a top-tier sniperman.
Artwork: Any piece of art related to Muv-Luv is going to be good. But now, with this futuristic setting, things are even better. A lot of time was put into the creation of this. It definitely shows.
Feels: Damn I’m still recovering. Wonderful story. The endings remain relatively the same, but it doesn’t matter, because when you develop a “crush” on a character in this game, you will be hurt by the ending. There is no way around it. But at the same time, you will feel awesome for what you’ve done as the credits roll.
Overall: Definitely the best part of the Muv-Luv series (Extra / Unlimited package). Alternative… now that’s a different story.
